Adziwa Orphan’s Ministry

ADZIWA, meaning ‘He knows’ in one of the Malawian languages (Chichewa), is a positive expression of hope in God for the future of orphans.

For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11

Recognizing that a child is the product of his or her environment, the vision of the ADZIWA CCBC Ministry is to provide comprehensive integrated community based care for the orphaned children by influencing their total environment; thus enhancing their potential to fulfill their life’s God-ordained purposes.

Our Goal

To improve the welfare of orphans and their families in the peri-urban and rural communities of Lilongwe, the Capital City of Malawi.

Overall Objectives

  • To strengthen the ability of families and communities to provide improved care for the orphan children in the areas of nutrition and health.
  • Provide high quality primary education and secondary education to Orphans and vulnerable children in Kauma (the high density area where ADZIWA is located).
  • To prevent further spread of HIV and AIDS by increasing knowledge and influencing behavior change of the students and community members.
  • To develop a model of good practice, faith-based, integrated, community-based, orphan care support and HIV/AIDS prevention program that can be replicated elsewhere in any peri-urban or rural community in Malawi.

Our Strategy

  1. To work in partnership with local churches in community as the entry point into the community and as the agents for change
  2. Partnering with other churches in Malawi and other countries
  3. To take care of the orphaned child in the context of the extended family unit
  4. To run sustainable and community based development approaches to service
  5. To have a biblical model of orphan care and support that integrates the spiritual component in all aspects of care and support.

What’s the Occasion?

Four-year-old Asher’s gleeful face peeked out from beneath his favorite hooded sweatshirt. His alligator-head hooded sweatshirt, complete with plush jaws that seemed to swallow his head! His mom’s heart sank. She wanted the family to make a good impression as they visited a family they hadn’t seen in a long time.

“Oh, Hon,” she said, “that may not be appropriate for the occasion.”

The Lord who made you wants you to make Him the center of your life.
“Of course it is!” Asher protested brightly.

“Hmm, and what occasion might that be?” she asked. Asher replied, “You know. Life!” He got to wear the shirt.

That joyful boy already grasps the truth of Ecclesiastes 3:12—“There is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.” Ecclesiastes can seem depressing and is often misunderstood because it’s written from a human perspective, not God’s. The writer, King Solomon, asked, “What do workers gain from their toil?” (v. 9). Yet throughout the book we catch glimpses of hope. Solomon also wrote: “That each of [us] may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all [our] toil—this is the gift of God” (v. 13).

We serve a God who gives us good things to enjoy. Everything He does “will endure forever” (v. 14). As we acknowledge Him and follow His loving commands, He infuses our lives with purpose, meaning, and joy.

Restore to us childlike joy that appreciates Your good gifts.
